Challenging the Status Quo and Creating Positive Change in the Veterinary Profession
If there's someone with decades of experience challenging the status quo and advocating for animal protection within the veterinary profession, it's the esteemed Dr. Nedim Buyukmihci.
Dr. Ned didn't let the voracious dissenters he faced throughout his career hinder his dedication to acting in the best interest of all animal species.
Alongside a team of dedicated students, Dr. Ned instituted alternatives to killing animals in the teaching curriculum at the University of California, Davis. Inspired by this, many veterinary schools across the United States followed suit and ended their harmful use of animals in their training curricula.
Dr. Ned continues to work with many animal protection and welfare organizations around the world, particularly in ending the non-human primate trade for the 'pet' and research and testing industries.

Meet Linda Cridge, a mother facing criminal prosecution for exposing ventilation shutdown.
The practice of ventilation shutdown, in which barns were closed up and steam was pumped in, killing pigs via overheating and suffocation by Iowa Select Farms gained international media attention and the practice was stopped thanks to Linda Cridge and other activists and whistleblowers who risked their freedom to record it and bring this atrocity to the public's attention. Iowa Select Farms then pointed to the American Veterinary Medical Association guidelines saying they were following veterinary approved protocols. Veterinarians were outraged that their profession was lending legitimacy to this practice and over 1500 veterinarians have signed onto Veterinarians Against Ventilation Shutdown (vavsd.org) asking the AVMA to re-classify ventilation shutdown as a "not recommended" form of depopulation. The proposal was brought to the AVMA House of Delegates and it was the first time in history the HOD refused to hear a late submission. The issue will be brought up again at the end of July. We will talk to Linda Cridge and get her side of the story. She will share her experience with Lucas Walker, the pig farmer and whistleblower who sought out activist help, and her interactions with local police. Bring your questions, this should be an interesting conversation! Join us via zoom on July 14th at 5:00pm Pacific Time. https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89429893796
